Struck by lightning, claimed by shadows.

Caught in a terrible storm, Gwynneth is struck by lightning. She wakes in the hospital with a vague memory of a mysterious stranger. Following her release, the stranger visits her at will and offers Gwynneth a gift—one that will stay the hands of death. She is uncertain whether Julian is a savior or something sinister, for as he shares more of this gift, his price becomes deadly.

Struck eBook Clarissa Johal

Delighted I gave this book a try! Became so engrossed with the mystery and danger the heroine, Gwynneth (Gwen) finds herself entangled in that once I began reading could not put the book down. This can be read as a standalone novel as there is no cliffhanger at the end.

Gwynneth moves to San Francisco after a bad break up. Her best friend, Seth, encouraged her to make the move and be his roommate. Seth even has a friend that helps her obtain a job at Homestead, a retirement home. Gwen is well liked by everyone at the retirement home, but becomes especially good friends with Fenten, a fellow employee. One of the residents, Mrs. Hannah Engel, becomes a favorite with Gwen to the point of spending extra time together even if it’s not Gwen’s day to work. Everything seems to be falling into place until the night Hannah dies unexpectedly. Her death sets in motion a chain of events that changes Gwen’s hold on reality as well as endangering anyone that she deeply cares for.

I was so mad a Gwen (as if she was my BFF) a number of times for not being open with old and new friends that could have been a huge help in her struggles against the evil that is trying to claim her. At the same time it’s easy to understand why Gwen is afraid everyone would think she is crazy if she tells them about the stranger, Julian, and the horrible things he shows her. Seth is so concerned and protective how can Gwen resist him. Heck, I couldn’t! Fenten and Poppy, friends of Gwen, are wonderful sub-characters! Would love to see a couple of books with them as the main protagonist, they are that engaging.

There is a flow to the story that works. Characters are very authentic making it easy to be pulled into their lives and even believe the craziness. Ms. Johal does a great job with the dialogue. There is a natural rhythm to the interaction between characters. The storyline was a new one for me which made it that much more intriguing. All in all was a very entertaining book.

Happily RECOMMEND to anyone 16 and older.

Struck eBook Clarissa Johal Reviews

Life and death, shadows slithering, love and friendship, ever-present evil, loyalties tested, loss and gain, suspense ... Those are some of the elements I loved about this book. "Struck" by Clarissa Johal is a book I couldn't put down. I was sad to finish reading it because I missed the characters, wanted them back and hated saying goodbye to them. The plot kept me interested and wondering what would happen next.

Read this book, but beware. You may have trouble getting anything else accomplished until you are finished and can tear yourself away from it.
This is the second book by this author that I have read. I was NOT disappointed. I first read "The Island" in one evening and could not put the book down. Went immediately to get this book, and had an awesome time reading this book. This book was so captivating. I loved all the characters, each one having their own history and issues. It was spine tingling. They should make it a movie.
Instantly hooked! Couldn't put this down, mesmerizing page turner. Instantly connecting to the heroine, Gwyennth. The author does an amazing job connecting you to the characters and what happens in the book. From the first lightning strike it creates such a electric spark to know what will become of Gwyennth and the mystery surrounding the figure she sees, Julian. Is he protecting, or going to hurt her. Love, suspense, action, and drama wrapped up in a "edge of your seat" in this page turner. A must read, and make sure you don't have anything to do once you start reading you won't be able to put it down!
If you like HORROR, this is your book. Johal works with your the minds, the characters minds & with everything, like a big park.

Gwen, is a character with an interesting beginning & later a crazy live. As horror; what?, who?, where?, when? & why? Will be in her & your mind.

The story, buy the book & read; Johal is a master. The characters move so easy, be exactly where they need & some shocks aren't too far.

That book is great...Can I tell you the end.... NOT, that would be a spoiler.
Exciting read. There were times when I wanted to throttle Gwynneth and scream at her to tell Seth and Fenton what was going on. But the writing made her personality clear that she was not going to spill the beans unless she was at death's door.

The whole protecting loved ones by not telling them the truth is an old tactic for creating tension etc so it wasn't very original but Gwyn's personality made it work.

All in all a good book. I was actually rooting for Dante with Gwyn at one point though I knew that wasn't going to happen. Still, despite being a butt, he was adorable in his interest.
